On Monday, November 30, a man who was working on a pipeline project in Taichung City was killed after he was sucked into a water pipe by a hole he just dug in the water pipe.

At about 11:30 in the morning, when the accident occurred, 50-year-old Mr. Zeng was working on a pipeline replacement project for the Taiwan Water Supply Company in Tanzi District.

People standing above the trenches recorded the incident in video. The video clip shows that Zeng used a hammer on the top of the steel pipe to knock out a 60 x 40 cm square fragment cut by his colleague. However, when the steel plate finally loosened, Zeng lost his balance and fell forward. Zeng was taken aback for a moment, but the suction created by the vacuum in the pipe sucked his feet into the pipe first.

Zeng's colleague pulled Zeng from the pipeline, but when the ambulance crew arrived, Zeng had lost his vital signs and was subsequently declared dead in the hospital.

The Ministry of Labor and other related agencies are currently investigating the incident. The incident is one of three fatal industrial accidents reported by Taiwanese news media today. In Yilan, a welder died of argon accumulation in an enclosed space, while in Kaohsiung, an excavator driver was buried alive after the chimney at the demolition site collapsed.

There were three fatal work-related accidents a day in Taiwan. Can you imagine if 3 people died in a similar time frame due only to (not even proven to be) the Covid mutant (please choose which one), what bloody whistling sound would it be? According to the "worldometers" website, it has been at or close to zero since the beginning of August. This is about 120 days! It's time to wake up and smell what you know. And, unlike Anlandes, I am not referring to coffee.
