Washington, DC-According to preliminary data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) today reported that the United States imported a total of 3,237,000 net tons (NT) of steel in September 2021, including 2,469,000 net tons (NT) of finished steel. . By the first nine months of 2021, total steel imports and finished steel imports will be 23,806,000 and 16,684,000 net tons (NTD), respectively, an increase of 34.9% over the same period in 2020. In 2021, total steel imports and finished products imports will be 31.7 and 22.2 million respectively. NT increased by 44.2% and 37.8% respectively over 2020. The market share of finished steel imports in September is estimated to be 25%, and for the first nine months of 2021 it is estimated to be 21%.

Compared with August, the main finished steel products with a significant increase in imports in September were line pipes (an increase of 111%), oil country goods (an increase of 104%), steel bars (an increase of 70%), and cut-to-length boards (an increase of 44%) , Wire rod (up 33%), tin plate (up 27%), coiled plate (up 22%), standard pipe (up 18%), cold-rolled plate (up 17%) and hot-rolled plate (up 16%) . Compared with the same period in 2020, the products with significant year-to-date (YTD) growth are hot-rolled sheet (an increase of 106%), coil (an increase of 81%), wire rod (an increase of 56%), sheet and strip all other metals Coating (increased by 53%), cut-to-length plates (increased by 52%), petroleum products (increased by 37%), heavy structural profiles (increased by 29%), cold-rolled sheets (increased by 28%), hot-rolled bars (increased by 26 %), wire drawing (up 24%), hot-dip galvanized sheet and strip steel (up 20%), tin plate (up 17%) and steel bars (up 13%).
