Alternative Lining Technologies (ALT) custom linings form a protective barrier against the infiltration of corrosive gases and groundwater. Since 1998, ALT has been providing peace of mind to commercial and municipal customers and providing brand new conditions for aging infrastructure.

For 23 years, Alternative Lining Technologies (ALT) has been providing asset owners with opportunities to repair—not rebuild—degraded underground infrastructure. Lining solutions not only save the cost of reconstruction projects: they can also extend the life of sewer structures and prevent costly and destructive infiltration and seepage.

ALT manufactures the most advanced repair solutions for manholes, wet wells and other structures. Since its launch in 1998, Alternative Lining Technologies' CIPM lining has met the needs of countless commercial and municipal customers for large and small projects.

General Manager Bruce Keys has worked in the sewer and sewage treatment industry for more than 35 years.

Unlike other adhesives or coatings, ALT's CIPM lining forms a complete reinforced structure in the main pipe, which can meet various sizes of underground structures.

The unique and patented design uses inward polyvinyl chloride (PVC) to form an impermeable barrier against corrosive sewer gas and groundwater infiltration.

The custom lining is shipped dry to the installer, where the custom blended epoxy resin is mixed and applied to the CIPM lining on site. Then insert the epoxy-coated lining into the manhole.

The underground liner is heated and solidified and kept under steam pressure to make the liner conform to the shape of the manhole. Continuous heat and pressure promote high bond strength to the substrate and also help the resin penetrate the substrate to form a strong anchor.

Generally, it takes an hour for the liner to form a protective barrier in the manhole. ALT uses a careful process to ensure the shortest downtime for each maintenance job.

Flexible PCV bridges potential cracks, while glass fiber reinforcement increases strength. Together, these layers prevent soil from penetrating into the manhole.

CIPM lining also provides full protection against corrosive gases. When wastewater is decomposed, the bacteria in the system release hydrogen sulfide as a by-product. This gas is converted into sulfuric acid, which is corrosive to concrete, steel, bricks, and most other materials.

ALT's CIPM lining can prevent biological sulfide corrosion, eliminate related infrastructure degradation, and ensure a longer service life for sewer infrastructure. The lining extends from the sewage flow line to the support lip of the manhole, so all surfaces exposed to the gas are lined to completely prevent corrosion and related failures and pollution problems.

The ALT's lining design is convenient, and the clean white PVC interior is used to make the manhole more bright and easy to check. The PVC protective layer is also easier to clean than traditional brick well walls.
